NEW In Depth Seminars

Nick Didlick - Photographic Workflow

Nick Didlick is a  30-year veteran of international photography, a leader in the digital imaging consulting field for 15 years, and is currently a Vancouver-based editorial and commercial photographer. He has traveled with presidents, royalty and sports teams on assignment, covered Super Power Summits, Olympics and disasters during his career. His pictures have appeared in many of the world's major newspapers and magazines, including the International Herald Tribune, The New York Times, The Times of London, The Sydney Morning Herald as well as Stern, Time, Newsweek, Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone Magazines. He shot his first professional assignment in 1976 in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.  "I just hung on to my camera straps and waited see what adventure the camera would take me on!", says Nick. Currently Nick is still shooting and lecturing on photography and is the Photo Manager for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.

During his lecture at the Lens and Shutter Expo he will talk about what it takes to make a great picture and photo workflow. “P” in Photography is for Planning, not Panic!  A multi-media look at what it takes to make a picture.  His first section is called "The “P” in Photography is for Planning, not Panic!" , where he will describe in detail some of the pictures he has made and give away all his secrets and recipes for making successful pictures.  Then it's all about "Workflow, Not Workslow" Digital photography has "developed" (pardon the pun) to the point where digital photographers should be spending more time shooting great pictures than sitting behind computer screens. Nick's second section will be a nuts and bolts look at digital photography workflows, from camera to output. Nick will explain basic workflows and then expand to a professional level workflow. From camera and computer set-up through download, archiving and output , Nick will highlight the tools you need to get you out shooting more and processing less! Nick likes to emphasize, "There are no secrets in digital photography only things we have yet to learn!"

Jean François 0'Kane - A Strobist's Night Out: Your Off Camera Unleashed

In conjunction with Booth Photographic we present A Strobist's Night Out

If you’re like other creative shooters out there, you’ve probably considered, more than once, how to best harness the full value of your DSLR’s shoe mounted flash gun or strobe as it’s sometimes called. It’s a highly sophisticated device, with more bells and whistles than you might care to count. But the opinion held by most strobists is that they are grossly underutilized. Shooters acknowledge that the results are often too harsh, too directional, and lack much of the escence they had hoped to create from their work.

In our 3 hour “Strobist’s Night Out,” we’ll get to the heart of the matter on how best to harness the creativity of your flash gun’s “quality of light” with the newly introduced MINI/MAX accessory line from Aurora. The MINI/MAX tools are capable of transforming the way in which you thought off camera flash ought to work. Jean François, TheStudioCoach, will illustrate not only how to creatively shoot on camera, he’ll also delve deeply into the realm of off camera lighting; demonstrating numerous ways to work with remote flash and multiple flash as well. With the help of a live model he’ll offer up suggestions on how to integrate your studio soft boxes into shooting scenarios where shoe mounted flash is the preferred light source.

Saturday April 18, 6:00 - 9:00
